Consumer Price Index - Hoboken has rent control - How much can a Landlord increase the rent upon lease renewal?

Landlords:  Be aware that Hoboken has a rent control ordinance.  You are allowed to increase the rent each year based on the CPI.  The chart above has been supplied by Hoboken's Rent Leveling Department.

You also need to issue your Tenant a disclosure that makes them aware Hoboken has a rent control ordinance.  They have 2 years from the time that disclosure is signed to make a complaint of overcharge in rent.  After the 2 years, if they discover they were overcharged they can make you roll the rent back to what it should have been but they cannot back overpayments.

Consult an attorney on all legal matters....

To learn more read Hoboken's rent control ordinance itself.  Click here to see the ordinance.
